Wansfell (487m) 13/04/2021
Distance: 6.5km; Ascent: ~180m; Time 1h30m
We parked on the A592 about 1.2km south of the Kirkstone Inn. A small parking area with a small-gated stile marks the spot. The route was a straightforward there and back to Wansfell Pike. There is some confusion over where the summit actually is. It is not at the best viewpoint, which is at Wansfell Pike (482m), but is at ~halfway (in distance) and marked Baystones on the map. There is a small cairn at the best viewpoint near Baystones but this seems not to be the highest of several mounds in the area and the true 487m summit appears to be unmarked - and is hardly distinguishable from those that surround it. A somewhat undulating route and boggy in places; mostly easy and a pleasant reintroduction to the fells after the second Coronavirus lockdown.
