Gavel Fell (526m), Blake Fell (573m), Burnbank Fell (475m) - 06/12/2019
DIstance: 10km; Ascent: 550m; Time 3½ hours
Not an ideal walking day but the forecast for the next two days was much worse so we braved it. Park at Maggies Bridge in Loweswater and follow the left fork once over the bridge. A little beyond High Nook Farm the main stony track continues towards an unnamed tarn. Look for a grassy path that ascends to the left and follow this. After a few hundred metres leave this path on a narrow track to the right, ascending the ridge above Black Crag, which summits at High Nook (showed on OS maps as a cairn at 488m). Eventually we arrived at Gavel Fell in low cloud, but had stayed dry up to this point. Now turn north on a reasonably distinct path that follows left of a fence line to reach Black Fell and then Burnbank Fell - by which point our rainwear was saturated. Although not shown on OS maps there is a clear path NE from Burnbank Fell which turns NNW when it reaches the steep cliffs above Loweswater, to join a well-marked path turning SE. After crossing Holme Beck take a path that enters Holme Wood and continues straight down to the southern corner of Loweswater at Watergate Farm.
