18/06/2023: Shap Fells: Wasdale Pike, Harrop Pike, Grey Crag and Tarn Crag from Wet Sleddale
Distance: 17.5km; Ascent: 610m; Time: 5h20m
We took advantage of a very dry spell to explore the usually very boggy Shap Fells and made a second ascent of the Wainrights - Grey Crag and Tarn Crag, which we had previously done from Sadgill in Longsleddale. We only saw other walkers around these two hills and had most of the walk to ourselves - along with a herd of ~40 Red Deer and the occasional Red Grouse. From Tarn Crag we went off piste towards Brunt Tongue, descending to the north to avoid a crag here. It would probably have been better either to go east of the crag to continue down the ridge line or to have descended directly to the north into Mosedale from Tarn Crag to pick up the path earlier.
