Heating
We have the Fischer System of electric radiators. (These are not night storage heaters).
DO NOT COVER THE HEATERS or put anything on them as this risks them over-heating (as can be seen on the kitchen heater, unfortunately).
Each room has its own thermostat – there are 10 thermostats.
The dial on the thermostat has several positions, the most relevant of which are ‘off’, ‘moon’, AUTO and ‘sun’
With the dial in the 'off' position (bottom left / anticlockwise) the heater(s) in the room will be off. (Please do not turn the heaters off at the wall switch).
Providing that no-one has adjusted the programming, with the dial in the AUTO position the heaters will aim to achieve the ‘sun’ temperature from 6 to 10am and from 4 to 10pm and the ‘moon’ temperature at other times.
The sun and moon temperatures are set by turning the dial to the ‘sun’ and ‘moon’ positions respectively, and then using the + and – buttons (the left two of the row of 4 below the display) to set the temperature.
When heating is required, we usually set sun to 20 degC and moon to 18 degC.
We have not set a limit for our guests, and we would ask that you do not abuse this (the cost of electricity is our biggest overhead).

FIRE SAFETY:
The door should only be opened for adding fuel – do not leave it open and do not attempt to use any logs that are too big for the door to close. A fire blanket is in the kitchen A fire extinguisher is in the recess between kitchen and utility. There are heat detectors in the kitchen and lounge and smoke detectors over the stairwell and in the upstairs corridor There is a carbon monoxide alarm in the lounge Fuel Use well-seasoned wood and smokeless coal – both are available from stores in Penrith eg Morrisons, B&Q, Yorkshire Trading Co. BM Home. (New wood or coal that is in any way moist has too great a water content and will clog up the chimney and fog the glass). |
In the 'off' and AUTO positions the display shows the room temperature, in the 'sun’ and ‘moon’ position the display shows the target temperature. PLEASE DO NOT ADJUST THE THERMOSTAT PROGRAMMING PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE WINDOWS AND DOORS OPEN WHEN THE HEATING IS ON Log Burner
Set the fire with layers of paper, completely dry kindling, and one or two completely dry, seasoned logs. The 2 air vents (bottom front and right side) should be fully open. Break a firelighter in 2 and place the pieces near the front of the grate. Light the firelighter and close the door. Once the fire gets established add (completely dry) smokeless coal. When the stove thermometer reaches the 12 o'clock position close the bottom vent. Thereafter control temperature by using the right side vent; when the fire is working optimally this should be closed halfway. |
