Arthurs Pike (533m) and Bonscale Pike (524m) - 03/03/2019
Distance: 11km walking, 4.5km on Ullswater steamer; Ascent: ~300m; Time: 4 ½h walking, 7h total
We parked on the fell above Helton. An easy ascent across Askham and Barton Fells to get to Arthurs Pike, with great views of Ullswater once past White Knott. Although Arthurs Pike is the (marginally) higher summit, we had not previously been to Bonscale Pike and this was our main target today (completing all the Wainright hills on the High Street range). The views from the descent into Howtown are extensive and include Loadpot Hill and the High Street range, Steel Knotts, Hallin Fell, the Hellvelyn range and Ullswater - and we were fortunate to see them mostly in sunshine. We had a 30min wait for the steamer at the Howtown Pier. Once at Pooley Bridge we visited the Sun Inn for lunch and a pint, before setting off back across the fells to reach the car - unfortunately this leg of the journey was done in the rain.
