Birkhouse Moor (716m) - 10/12/2020
Distance 6.8km; Ascent: 630m; Time 2h20m
This was the first of 4 of Wainright's hills we did in a generally grey, wet week while preparing Smithy House for our Christmas guests. Birkhouse Moor is a hill that we have previously bypassed, along with most other people, on the ascent of Hellvelyn from Glenridding. We followed the signed Mires Beck route, entering the clouds at about 550m. The summit of Birkhouse Moor is a 100m detour from the main route. Today it involved crossing a small snow field and there was no view at the top. In better visibility we would have made our way on to Red Tarn and down via Greenside to make a nice circuit - but today we settled for there and back.
