Acorn Bank (National Trust) - 28/04/2018
Partly prompted by our saving £8 on car-parking at Great Langdale yesterday and partly by Alison's desire to visit a garden we decided to visit the National Trust house and garden at Temple Sowerby, not far east of Penrith. The main attractions here are a well laid out herb garden, a newt pond with many Great Crested Newts (I don't think I have seen these since I was a boy), an old restored mill, an old gypsum mine, attractive grounds and the house itself. We took the tour around the house and found it very informative - I've never paid much attention to how to read a building, our guide pointed out many features that were interesting and would have been easy miss. (The guided tour is for a limited number of people on a first come first served basis). There is also a tea room which provided us with both morning coffee and lunch. In all we were here for about 4 hours. Well worth a visit and I'm sure we'll come again.
