Loft Crag (680m), Pike of Stickle (709m), Harrison Stickle (736m), Thunacar Knott (723m), High Raise (762m), Sergeant Man (736m)
Distance: 11km, Ascent: 750m, Time: 6h
We parked in the large National Trust car park at Great Langdale. We took the path signed to Dungeon Ghyll and ascended steeply to the plateau between the Langdale Pikes. On the ascent it looks as though reaching the summits will involve a considerable amount of scrambling up and down the rocky tops, but actually only a little easy scrambling was required - mainly on Pike of Stickle. From the tops there were good views west across to Bow Fell and the Scafell range beyond and all along the Langdale Valley to the east. It would be easy to get disorientated in misty conditions on the plateau area between the Langdale Pikes and High Raise - but today we had perfect walking weather (the wind of the past few days having died away to stillness). (Incidentally, there is another High Raise in the Far Eastern Fells). We did miss the path coming down from Sergeant Man to Stickle Tarn and found ourselves walking east above Codale and Easedale Tarns, but the route back cross-country was easy. We stopped for a rest at Stickle Tarn, which we had all to ourselves today, before making the steep descent on the path by Stickle Ghyll.
