This site shows walks and other activities we have done while staying at Smithy House
Smithy House is situated in the quiet rural hamlet of Bampton Grange, in the eastern part of the Lake District National Park. Access from the M6 motorway is easy (in comparison with most parts of the Lake District), ~15 minutes drive from junction 39 if coming from south or junction 40 if coming from the east or north. There is easy access to the fells around Haweswater and Ullswater and to the fells north of the A66, all of which tend to be much less congested than the central parts of the Lake District. The central fells and lakes can be accessed via Keswick or Ambleside (over the Kirkstone pass). Whilst most guests will want to spend most of their time in the Lake District, there is also easy access to the Cumbrian parts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park (just east of the M6), and to the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty (north-east of Penrith). The Eden valley also has much to offer. We have stayed here many times and still have a long list places we have not yet visited.
This website gives a brief account of activities we have done in the Lake District and in the surrounding area since 2015.
We hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we have.
